Model Projects of Panchayat

LIFE Mission Housing Project
Under the LIFE Mission Scheme, Velloor Grama Panchayat constructed and handed over houses to 13 landless and homeless families.
Although post-independence India and Kerala have made significant progress in development, many families in Kerala still remain landless and homeless. The LIFE Mission is a flagship initiative of the Government of Kerala aimed at fulfilling the long-cherished dream of owning a home for such families.
As part of this mission, the Panchayat completed a housing project on land that was received free of cost and handed over the completed houses to the beneficiaries.
A 65-cent plot of land, which had been inherited by Dr. Rajalakshmi and Sri. Babu as family property, was generously donated to the Panchayat in memory of their late mother. Through the LIFE Mission, 13 eligible landless and homeless families were provided with houses in a time-bound manner.
The beneficiaries were selected strictly according to the list prepared by the LIFE Mission authorities. Each house has an area of 420 sq. ft. and includes:
Two bedrooms
A hall
A kitchen
Water connection
Electricity connection
The construction cost of each house was approximately ₹4.40 lakh, which included:
₹4 lakh assistance under the LIFE Mission
Wages received through the MGNREGS scheme
Assistance from the Sanitation Mission for toilet construction
In total, 118 families in Velloor Grama Panchayat have been provided with safe and secure housing under the LIFE Mission.
